Calm down! what does it materazzi anyway?

July 12, 2006 at 10:32 am (Marketing, Strategy, freethought, goals)

So we have some answers now .. whether it was racially-insulting or wishing an ugly death on his family Materazzi clearly uses whatever brutal means he has at his disposal to cut his enemies down : check Materazzi in action on YouTube – History of Materazzi – in the video selections the one closest to the bone

I think being South African probably offers a little more insight and certainly more sensitivity to the issue of racism. If Zizou was insulted with a racial slur we hope to see FIFA putting their money where their mouth is on their “say no to racism ” campaign :: getting the backing of Nelson Mandela and other world leaders, pairing up with Nike’s Stand Up Speak Up campaign :: mean nothing if there is no follow-through on an incident that may have been the tipping point in the World Cup Final.

We have no damn time for yet another slick marketing effort that doesn’t live up to it’s promise.

Zinedine Zidane, France Captain: “There is no place for racism. It is impossible to love this sport, to play it or to support a team and be racist or xenophobic at the same time. The values conveyed by football are the exact opposite of racism. Because racism promotes exclusion and hate. Football, in contrast, brings people together to share a common pleasure.

PS. okay one last last one>> because there are guys who say it better than I can. I’m quite passionate about this but not a sports commentator’s bottom so check out: (Zmag)

What’s your name?

July 11, 2006 at 8:09 am (freethought)

Rafiq the Innov8r was complaining that his new Max-given name sounded like some medieval warrior like Conan the Barbarian.. he doesn’t know that secretly..this was me in another dimension back in the Diablo days >>

If you have an avatar, play RPG’s whether WoW or SecondLife or if you live in more dimensions than most people toddling around realise exists: then this post from the incomparable Trendwatching blog won’t startle you at all.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about then best you whizz your eyeballs over there to catch up!

Leaps of Faith >>

July 10, 2006 at 4:35 pm (Strategy, freethought, leadership)

BLIND FAITH is a paradoxical prerequisite for VISIONARY leadership
& having a VISION is not what you can SEE

Sometimes life requires that you just LEAP.. into the seeming void and TRUST your decision is right

I have a tattoo in a place that I can’t see, to remind me to love, honour and obey my immortal passionate spirit until death do we part. (It isn’t a in naughty spot in case you were unsettled BTW)

And I have been unfaithful. Read the rest of this entry »

using (losing) your head

July 10, 2006 at 11:39 am (Strategy, freethought)

oh my GOOODNESS! I want to know what the hell Materazzi said?

Yet again EQ beats IQ. If there was any doubt that mastering your emotional intelligence is worthwhile it was last night’s World Cup final>>

Utterly outstanding game for grabbing our attention!and for Zizou who generated global powerlines of attention and conversation in the final minutes of his legendary career. Maybe not a graceful exit :: but he made for a great story :: he went out with a bang (ouch!)

The Web 2.0 Attention Generator Award goes to Zinedine Zidane. Despite the glorious tension of the game through to it’s heart-pounding penalty shoot-out and beauuuuutiful Italian players.. the man I went to sleep thinking about was… ;-)

Ever Questing

July 7, 2006 at 10:52 am (freethought, magic, opensource, vision)

Most of us haven’t a clue where the web is leading us and the concepts of web 2.0, MMORPG’s, SEO or even blogs (what’s that?!) are not even a reality to a major chunk of humanity. But nonetheless our global consensual reality is under construction & the developers>> yes, the GEEK shall inherit the earth ;-)

[Douglas Rushkoff - bless his clarifying genius - has a podcast from Pop!Tech on the Renaissance at ITconversations that is WELL worth listening to. If you were wondering about the validity of new dimensional doors opening[ ] I feel the tug of string theory once more]

and for those of us who delight in making it up as we go along .. this is the new Age of the Explorer - not IE BTW! thanks Donovan for pointing that out 4 Firefoxies

we’re all out hunting for the edge of the known world>> Read the rest of this entry »

*magic spell* to getting whatever you want

July 6, 2006 at 3:28 pm (Science, Strategy, freethought, goals, magic)

At 14 I thought I’d stumbled upon the secrets of arcane magic when I discovered the spell that manifests whatever you want out of thin air.

I found it in a little tumbledown 2nd hand book store ..quietly throbbing its signal to my young heart. My fingers tracked it to an innocuous maroon clothbound book from whose pages unfurled the most potent spell known to mankind.

Clad in ancient Egyptian ritual (to do what religions must and obscure our rational minds from the mind-reeling simplicity of reality re-shaping).

Humans love quests!! accept & move on.. questions open the door for quests>> so here’s one I LOVE:

Back to School for the grown.ups!

June 26, 2006 at 4:11 pm (Future South Africa, Marketing, barcamp, leadership)

If you think you’re too small to have an impact try going to bed with a mosquito in the room. – Anita Roddick (Body Shop)

Today I was inspired again by the leadership of someone unexpected.

There are unusual leaders who stride among us, those for whom the hierarchical contraints of traditional leadership and tenure mean squat. You won’t recognise them by their suits, because they may still be in school uniform. They move faster and with a deft ease that defies assumptions. Read the rest of this entry »

Wanna come in for a coffee?

June 19, 2006 at 4:14 pm (Love, Marketing, Strategy, barcamp)

<< I got to see a lot of this logo this weekend thanks to this man>>

.. and I’ll be whizzing in for a freshly baked muffin because of their Blogger’s Promo (thanks to Dave – we ARE a market segment!). You’re a legend bru ;-)

Thanks to Dave’s underground microbranding strategy, Caffeine has shot up WordPress’ fastest growing blog stats to 33rd globally. Excellente. I’m particularly stoked ‘cos their shop is a few metres away from my office (which I share BTW with a brilliant German designer Kristoph with a wicked sense of humour – so if you ever need a website designed or fresh brand face he’s deep in the trust network!).. so I’ll be delighted if it attracts a rockin’ crew because I’m missing being in the heart of town.
